should I be concerned

I just caught this entry from Google Mail to keep their members informed about changes to the email programs that they use (that includes me).  I don’t use the web base unless I am out of town or at work.  I usually use MS Outlook.  So the only way I would notice the updates or changes is if I went to the website.

The only other concern I am still having is the grey streaks on the monitor when the monitor is on power down/screen saver.   It occasionally takes a couple of minutes and the gray area with streaks (it makes me think the monitor is dying) shows up.

For some reason the screen was gray with lines...after it being on power down...I hope this doesn't mean something is wrong with the computer.

Just how hard can it be?

All I wanted to do is to put the tower next to my desk.  I unplugged all the wires and then plugged them..and all the wires and cords are now tangled!  I can't even get the mouse to work!!!

It is true

Well I just pulled my CPU Tower out from under the desk.  I have it in front of the desk drawers and I really don’t know how long that will last but as Don had said the Speed and signal strength is much better.  I am just afraid that in my moving around I will knock it off and break it.  I think I can move it to the side of the desk by the window.  I can do it tomorrow.

I have gotten a few High CPU use from Norton.  I think it may have happened twice today.  I am not really worried about it.  I should probably click on the link and see what it says I should do.

Wow just went to Facebook and man it was fast…Definitely need to move the tower from under the desk.

It is never easy

Mom spent the better part of the afternoon with cablevision/Optimum to set up her email.  She feels she isn't getting it and they todl her she is.   I tried to access my email (didn't really register yet) but Bob got the router yesterday and says that I will hve to sign in with the password he gave me (no I won't share it) but I htink he may have left out some information.  I tried it and don't have an email account.   I asked Mom if I have to sign on under her email or account or what.  We are both too tired tonight to figure out what we are doing wrong.

Optimum online...had to get a new router (the first one was wrong)....Bob put a new one on today...so I am reconnected but the speed and signal strength still very poor as far as I am concerned.  I may have to do what Donny suggested. 

He had suggested I move the tower around and see if it is stronger.

Norton did an automatic renewal last week.  This morning Windows is doing about 8 updates.

Also My signal strength on my computer is down to 12Mps and low.  I have no idea why...the lights are stll on the tower.

The signal strength has been fluxuating from 58 down to 2...Don seems to think its the network.  Not the wires or tower.

Adobe Flasher PLayer 10.3

Just had the installation of the Adobe Flash Player and it says I can get better quality HD Videos and graphics.  Good because it drives me crazy when I try to view any freaking video online it buffers too much.

Windows update

Bright and early this morning Microsoft had eleven updates.  They were mostly security updates.  I probably will have to check the site itself.

Last night I asked Don for some advice and he sent me instruction about the ubport stick.

Ghost Image done and so is Integrity check both were successful.

Found out Mom pulled out wires with foot at one point during the weekend she had to reset.

Tonight the network went down again Mom reset it.  This is getting to be a problem.  AT&T should not being doing this-we have DSL..I really wish we had another service or separate.  I am sick and tired of watching the network and the connection indicator go down so low.  I couldn't get on for nearly two hours.

Don came over with fresh new DVD's yesterday and gave me a tutorial on how to make the Ghost Image and integrity check.  He recommended that I do it on a night where it is continuous.  With no large hour breaks.

Mom accidentally pulled out the internet connection so it took a while for me to get online.  Once I did everything was very slow.  Very Frustrating.

Did the Ghost Image

Yesterday Don set the wheels in motion to do a ghost image.  It took about 4 hours and 4 disks.  We will do a check of it later on in the week.  While doing the integrity check it would stop during the second disk twice.  I don't know if I can continue.  i have sent an email to Don.  He says if this doesn't completely work then he can do a compression.

Ghost Image this weekend

I talked with Don today he asked me if I have the computer to where I like it and I told him yes and he offered to do the ghost image this weekend some time.  I will do a windows update for that first.

Had to do a norton scan

I went to a site to read something and it looked like a adaware scan was happening and I got nervous thinking it was a virus type thing.  I got off the site quickly.  Managed to do a full Norton scan and there were 67 things found but rectified.

Knock on wood things have been pretty good...even with a power failure last week.  Haven't had any updates in a while maybe will check over the weekend.  Haven't made an updated ghost image as promised...more disappointments.

Couple of Norton things going on

one I can't remember what it said the other was High CPU usage performance alert.

a few times this week various sites crashed and were recovered...I don't know why or if it programs conflicting but it is annoying.

I noticed I got  UPC High Usage alerts

things have been hinky

went to a couple of sites i normally go to and was literally thrown off...and then back on.  Was shown a debugging window which annoyed me.  Today the internet was very slow.

computer froze tonight

I am not sure why but I turned it off at the tower.  Seems to be doing okay now.  I had an adobe program updated a day or two ago.  I also recieve High CPU usage alerts from Norton.

I got nervous

I did get the High CPU Usage alert from Norton today.  I am not sure why but I hope it doesn’t mean anything is wrong.  I allowed the Google Task Bar to show up on the top.  After spending several days hiding it I didn’t feel like removing it but I do remember what Don says that it makes money for them and could open me up to problems.  The next time it asks if I want to hide temporarily or permanently I will make sure I press permanently.  I could see the difference at quickly it worked.

I get frustrated every time I want to watch a video either at legitimate news source or even youtube.com and they are constantly buffering.  I thought with all  the memory I have it wouldn’t do that?  I may need to ask Donny about it. 

I have been getting a lot of ink.com and promotion emails from Norton and various other vendors to get supplies.  I will start deleting them as they come in.

Been emptying and getting rid of various files that I don’t need anymore.  I also log some of the important stuff if needed. 

I know its been a while

For the second time this week was bounced off of twitter and had one of those IE errors and then rebooted back to the tab where i was back on twitter.  I need to be more aware of what was written.

New Memory chips put in today.  Don says won't need to upgrade for a long time.  I am not so sure about that considering all the stuff I save and write about.

Windows update

Received 10 updates for microsoft windows mostly to deal with outlook.

Window Media player 10

Wasn't installed and wouldn't let it.  It was recommended to be done again.

something happened to the disks.   So we will be doing it again sometime in the near future.

Don had me download Windows Defender...its a spyware type of program and its part of the Windows world. 

We discovered that this pc doesn't have enough memory and that's the reason it has been running slow.

Did the Ghost Image today

Around 2 pm Donnie came over and got it started it is already on second disk.  He thinks it should only take three but gave me an extra one.  Tomorrow will check to see if it worked right.

I had to turn the computer at the tower again.  It went very slow today and really aggravated me.  A couple of the documents went on recovery.

I think

I had too many programs running on my computer and not closing them out made the computer take an awful long tme to do what I wanted and it was very frustrating.  I turned it off at the tower. 

Its been a couple of days

No major issues that I can think of except Adobe 9.0 was installed but it wouldn't activate becasue some programs or files were using 7.0 and I was asked to  close them out.  I was about ready to scream so I cancelled it.  May have the time to do it again when it pops up.  The google taskbar wouldn't load up and that's okay.

For some reason Foxfire icon and program seems to have disappeared.

Not sure if I should be worried

The Screen saver never went on during the night.   I am not sure I am explaining it well but does it mean there is something not working when that happens? 

I have been getting high memory usage notifications from norton (as performance alerts).  One of these days I may just click on description and find out what that means.

I deleted some old documents and trying to figure out how to mainstream or streamline all these things and decide which documents to get rid of.

I can't seem to find my thumb drive and that's making me crazy.

I really hope I didn't do something stupid

Everything I have done tonight has been slow.  I have gotten "virtual Memory" messages.  High Memory Activity from Norton.  Changing sites, typing eveyrthing is extremely slow and annoying.  I have only saved articles (the one below comes to mind) and a few emails.

I can't wait for Don to make the new ghost image.

I do keep the computer on all the time.  Sometimes on the Internet and sometimes just on to the desktop or to many of my documents.  IF I think the computer is working slow for a little bit (even though I just got this set up again) then I turn it off.

seems to be doing okay

Had a few freezings but they seem to be doing okay...can't find thumb drive.  updated files and things seem to be okay.

Not sure if Don will be doing the Ghost image this weekend.

getting a little frustrated

The computer froze a second time today.  I rebooted at the tower and it seems to be fine.  I continue to get performance alerts from Norton.  High memory from user...and stuff like that.  I am not sure what if anything I am supposed to do.

Overalll I probably shouldn't keep the mutliple programs running that I should shut down when I am going to be away for a while.

Computer was a little slow today

I turned it off at the tower and rebooted.  The checkdisk screen happened and cleared everything out.  I think maybe too many programs were operating at once. 

I also know I have to start emptying out the inbox as there are too many emails and not enough coming in.

I told Don how things are going and he says in a few weeks barring any crashes he will do the ghost image.

Outlook

Well Still couldn't do the yahoo and tried it three different ways.
Was able to do the GMail accounts and was able to do one inbox this time...I have to be careful how about I respond

Any emails I send to various groups/lists do not show up in the inbox...had that problem before...sigh.

Kate, it should not interfere with anything, but….. When I’m doing a download or installation I do not do anything else on the computer just in case it might corrupt the download or installation.

 As for having to pay for it they would let you know. They do not have your credit card number so they cannot charge you.

It's Done

It didn't take long and seems to be working fine.  I hope I wasn't supposed to do anythng else with it.  I saved the Adobe Licenses in the Computer folder on the hard drive.

Adobe update

I found Adobe site.  Was going to download the flashplayer but I think I better wait until Don comes over this weekend.  I don't want to have to pay for it and if I do something to the Antivirus as they are asking I won't be sure on how to do it.

Apparently until I update the Adobe program I can't use the Excel programs.  It doesn't load up...the icon or what ever you call it shows up but the actual page doesn't.

I started another update for windows in general and hopefully its searching right now.  If  that's not the case for either of them I will ask Don tomorrow.

More updates

There were 9 more updates earlier this evening and there is another round going now.  The Internet seemed slow and very aggravating.  I am not sure if it was because the pc was on all day and the weather may be effecting lines outside of the house.

Got rid of all the emails

That were in my outlook express..  Not having much luck getting them to come in..something is up.

Did another round of updates

This time 39 updates.  I have a feeling its the ones that didn't dowload before.  I may have to do the Adobe as I can't see certain videos on certain sites.

They were all successfully downloaded and installed according to the message I received.

nearly had a heart attack

I turned the computer on but after a few minutes the screen wasn't loading up.  I found out the on button for the screen was turned off.  That's what lack of sleep does to you.

More updates are happening right now.  Will find out what they are once they are complete.  I sent a email to DB updating him on the SP3 update.

I haven't deleted the emails yet.  However I did delete the links to other email accounts.  THe one for iwon.com; hotmail.com and nescape and I can't  think of the other one.

The service pak 3 was successfully installed but now one that failed maybe linked to the microsoft netframework.  Will look at the history tomorrow.  Sent email to DB to tell him.

next thing to do is to get rid of all the emails in outlook express that are from 2006.  They include emails about pen paling, the google alerts that ranged from LaGrange to the various schools and stuff.  Intead of saving them I will just record them in the various folders and files I have for that particular item.  Although I am little apprehensive about opening them.

That sure is a lot of updates. Numbers 1 & 4 I wouldn’t worry about. Number one is for “Microsoft Agent”. You more than likely do not have that program installed on your computer. Number 3 seems like an important one. I looked it up and it is so someone cannot remotely take over your computer. When I come over to do the Ghost Image I’ll see what is blocking it. You probably do not have Microsoft.net Framework installed. That could be the reason why number three didn’t work. I wouldn’t bet on it, but you never know.

   The update for Office has to be installed by itself. It cannot be done along with other updates. If it still doesn’t work we can check that out also.

   I did a Ghost Image on my computer today. It took six DVDs and six hours to do. The new ones (format DVD+R) didn’t work. The old ones worked (format DVD-R). I did not do and integrity check yet to make sure that they are good. That is for another day soon. Your DVD burner might be compatible with DVD+R. If not we can use DVD-rs.

and it is ok to use your computer as is.

Edited to Add that just before I read these and as I told DB that I did another check and that service pak 3 was important so I am trying it again.  I told him that too.  So that's what's going on for now.

just shortly before 8 pm.  Me wonders if they will have me upgrade to IE 9?  Don isn't sure of what to expect with it suspects there maybe some bugs still in it...

The updates still going on

The latest round of 119 updates that I started at 9 am this morning are still continuing.  They were up to 35 and its been on the 35th update for the last two hours.  Its SVC pak 3.  I know it must be moving because the numbers to the side keep going.

Did a quick Symantac product update and continuing to do the windows update.  There seemed to be six updates when I turned off the computer last night.  Will check the history at later time.

I can turn off

I heard from Don and he says I can turn off the computer and have no problems.  He says it might not be running as I don't have that particular program on my computer (I think he said Silvertales).  I just have to turn it on again tomorrow and keep on doing it.  He also just reminded me when we can or will do the Ghost image.  He wants me to do it every six months.

It doesn't seem to be moving

I haven't turned it off yet.  Sent the email to Don I am still waiting.  I did something to and it hasn't moved still.

Still doing the updates

Don says it will take several days and that I shouldn't use my computer until they are all done.  I had stopped one update because it didn't seem like it was activated.  I am going through it again.    I may have to call Don for this again.

Staying with the Norton

We would have had to go through Mom's account info because I am linked with hers (I don't completely understand that) but she couldn't remember the password so we couldn't down load the Free McAfee.  So as of 2:59 it was installing it on my computer (Norton).

After that's done I am going to do all the Updates necesssary and then next weekend we will do a Ghost image.

The Ghost is done

Now all the updates are supposed to start but I am putting it on hold until Don comes back later.  He wants me to remove Norton and upload McAfee.  The Java Update wants to download it but I think I should wait so that Don can see it.

Don took a look at it and he said it was wiped out.  He feels it wasn't my fault that it could happen.  He had checked out the site that I told him I visited (the site).  He had me put the Norton Ghost in it...after getting to somethings.

Ghost Imaging

Don is going to buy some more fresh DVR to do the ghost imaging of my computer.  The ones he currently has or old and he is certain it wouldn't work well with this.  As soon as he verifies them he will do the ghost image.

Computer doing well

No major problems.  Updated some files.  Will ask Don if I should do the ghost copy this weekend.  There hasn't been any more Microsoft updates.  Did a virus check and still clean.

computer made a liar out of me....around midnight got an internet explorer debugger message.  Was able to power down the regular way but it seemed to freeze.  I should have made a print screen.next time I will.

has a read x on it and yet it I am still able to get to the internet.  I have no idea why as it was turned off all night.

Things seem to be runing pretty good

It did freeze at one point but other than that its okay.  There haven't been anymore updates from Microsoft or Adobe.  I am thinking Don will want me to make a ghost image for any future problems

No sooner did I say things were going good..Some how the computer rebooted to a blue screen and did one of those scan disk things.  Then it restarted and was working fine.  It was the Stop (blue Screen) error.  It gave an explanation and steps to take care of it.  I only went as far as the virus scan...and there was nothing.

IE was working this morning

I tried it before leaving for work.  But Symantec closed out.  Does anyone know what that means?  The Norton search is in the Tool Bar (the thing on top).  I turned off the machine and hopefully it will be in the task bar when I get home.

Heard from Don tonight

He acknowledged I should update the Adobe Macroflash Player.  I told him I did.  I also told him IE is giving me problems at this moment.  It hasn't loaded the last four or five times this evening.  I was usingn Mozilla Firefox.  It would not let me log on to blogger.com  It brought to another page to clear the cookies.  This is really frustrating.

Got a little nervious this evening

Windows did more updates Yesterday.  I updated the Adobe Macromedia Flash.  Sent email to Don didn't hear back from him.

Tonight while updating Calendar the computer froze....turned it off at tower.  Seems to be working fine now.  HOw many times can the tower be turned off before computer goes kaput?

Up and running

Yesterday afternoon after trying myself to do the Norton Don came over and got it rolling we had online support to it from their position.  It is now working.  They downloaded FireFox  (Mozilla) and I knew Don would not like it so I am not using it.

Did the microsof updates for most of the day.  It would not do the security update for Outlook Express 2003.  I am going to try and do the updates and see if they are all done.  The little icon that says updates wouldn't open for me during the day.  I manage to get the gmail accounts done but I can't update the sbcglobal.net account to go..it has all teh emails from 2006 to 2008.  May have the same issue as before..about using outlook express for primary account.

I am probably going to have to get rid of all those old emails as I don't feel like saving them now.

trying to update Norton

I tried it once but it didn't work.  I did email Don to see if I had could do the microsoft updates first or the Norton.  He said to do the Norton first.  Tell them my original hard drive crashed had another one put in but need the product key.  The online help gave me some info and shared a page.  I just couldn't get it.  Don said before i did if I get anxious or what ever it can be done again.  So I am giving it the night first.

Have it set up to try again...too tired to work on it..and not concentrating.  I will do it first thing tomorrow.

Well I got the tower back

Don was able to go back as far as 2006 from the Ghost image that we made.  Right now we are doing updates.  I may have to go to Norton and ask for the recent code to get the Norton updates.   Don recommends that I go to Microsoft and get all the updates.  We removed webroot system.

All the folders I had prior to this year are still on the hard drive...so now will be able to use the memory stick.  Don gave me instructions to be able to use the stick.

No News is good news

I have nothing to report today.  I am looking forward to getting the tower back and starting from scratch with all my documents.  I probably will have to get a new memory stick to store the stuff on as well as some CD's.

Don should be getting the new harddrive #2 tomorrow some time and then he will give the whole thing back on Saturday.

Update on Desk top

Don called and said the hard drive was completely shot.  He couldn't save anything.  The Harddrive that he originally ordered would not do so he has ordered another one and it will be here in a day or two and will have it in the tower by Saturday.

Mom went to Costco and was told the two laptops were not available in store but online.  She said the ones there were cheap to expensive.  She will figure out which method would be better.  In Store on online.

Don looked up a couple of Laptops for me at the Costco site. There is one from Samsung and the other is HP...

Did ask Don about whether or not we had wireless and where to locate the access number.  I may have to get an additional thumb drive for the documents I want to save.  Don says those thumb drives only save documents not programs...

Right  now he has the tower and all the CDs that we had put the possible backups on.  He is hoping he can salvage some of it...if not start from scratch.

Hard drive

Donnie has ordered a new Hard drive for the computer and will be installing it this weekend. He says I can have both the desk top and Lap top. won't have to run out right this week.
