What to do when emails are hacked

Earlier this week my niece emily’s email account had been hacked and as a result many in her contact list was sent an email with a link in it.  The first thing I did was email her and text ehr to see if she was aware and she was.  I suggested she had to change her password.  After I thought about it I wasn’t sure what else had to be done until I saw this this morning.  I then discovered it has more in depth steps.  Something that makes me anxious.  I want something like the above link to be quick and easy and usually its not so easy and quick.  Of course I will save them to the hard drive when time permits.
